Nic Cage Confirmed For “The Expendables 3”

While the female version of The Expendables continues to fill their j.v. team, Stallone has added another icon to the roster for his popular Expendables franchise. Was that an unnecessary shot at the female version, maybe, but hey maybe they should cast a legitimate role. For right now, the entire movie is looking expendable, and the fact that I mentioned it at all is more than it deserves at this point.

Joining the cast for the third Expendables film is none other than Nicolas Cage. Cage has been a name that was tossed around the wish lists back when casting for the first film was being announced. Nothing has been said about what type of role Cage will be playing for the film, but I say the crazier the better. Really, if they could just make him play Big Daddy again, you wouldn’t get any complaints out of this guy.

Hit the jump for what Sylvester Stallone had to say about Cage signing on, and who else he wants to see join the crew.

“We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing ‘The Expendables’. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.”
I’m fine with Ford being in this, but I think he would work best in a role like Bruce Willis had in the first film. I think his days of being able to pull off a bunch of action scenes are behind him. Although I guess they could have him stand on a balcony and mow down bad guys like they had Chuck Norris do in the second film. Like I’ve said before, what they really need to do is drop Terry Crewes and Randy Couture. Even though those guys look the part, they just don’t belong in the same group with all these guys that have been assembled. They can be in the film, just kill them off in the opening battle. Everytime they’re on screen, I can do nothing but think about how this could be time devoted to actors we actually care about.

What are peoples thoughts, yay or nay on Cage? What about the other guys Stallone mentioned?
