Movie Trailer: "Beyond the Black Rainbow"

I know Derek is going to be putting up the latest edition of The Trailer Park tomorrow, but I just had to get this one out there; I thought it deserved its own post. For those who you who haven't heard of Panos Cosmatos' "Beyond the Black Rainbow", you're not alone. While this film has technically been around for a couple of years, it's just now starting to make its way to the States. This movie looks all kinds of creepy and twisted. The trailer doesn't give much away, but the imagery looks intense, and the tone looks very unsettling.

When I first watched this trailer (first featured at Apple), three movies popped into my head immediately: "A Clockwork Orange", "The Wicker Man", and "Hellraiser". When you watch it, I'm sure you'll see a lot of the same parallels. The tone is very Stanley Kubrick and the imagery is very Clive Barker. And all in the best ways.

I'm really looking forward to this film. Hopefully it will live up to the expectations I'm already starting to build for it in my mind, but either way, I expect it will be a trippy experience.

Magnet is planning to release the film sometime this spring and it's assumed it will first hit VOD, then get a limited theater run in select cities. The film was both written and directed by Cosmatos and features a cast of Michael Rogers, Eva Allen, Scott Hylands and Marilyn Norry.

Since you don't get much of it from the trailer, the official synopsis is listed below.
Beyond the Black Rainbow, is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. Cosmatos brings a bold, Kubrickian vision to the screen in stunning detail in this sci-fi fable of a young woman imprisoned in an experimental laboratory and the enigmatic scientist who is her captor. Set in a futuristic 1983, Elena finds herself held against her will in a mysterious facility under the watchful eye of the sinister Dr. Barry Nyle. Pushed to her limits, Elena is left with no choice but to navigate an escape from her labyrinthine prison, in the process revealing its hidden secrets.
