With "The Last Stand" hitting theaters tomorrow, what a better time to reveal some new information on the Terminator 5 project. So far, little has been revealed for the fifth installment; all we know is that it's definitely going to happen. But when or who all will be involved is still up in the air. Justin Lin ("Fast Five") was originally lined-up to direct the film, but had to drop out due to conflicts with Fast & Furious 6. We know that Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Films is producing the picture ("The Master", "Zero Dark Thirty"), and that brother, David Ellison/Skydance Pictures ("True Grit", "Star Trek Into Darkness"), will co-produce. Outside of that, and knowing that Arnold Schwarzenegger is still (hopefully) attached to appear in minor form, is all that's currently on the table.
But today, a bit more news finally trickled in.
Deadline has reported that Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been hired to pen the script. Kalogridis has previous writing credits for films such as "Alexander" and "Shutter Island", while Lussier most recently scripted "Drive Angry".
I can see all the tones and styles meshing together when combining each of these filmmakers' previous works. From the producers to now the writers, things seem to be lining up nicely. Once we get a director on board, we should get a much greater sense of the direction of the project (literally, actually, in this case). But now that writers have signed, we should have more news in the near future.
