Photo Bomb!
Thanks for checking out the latest edition of Photo Bomb!, your weekly roundup of all movie-related photos and posters floating around the internet.
A slower week than usual for this post, but nonetheless, still plenty of great imagery, so let's get right to it. Films featuring new photos and images include "Noah", "The Wolverine", "Texas Chainsaw 3D", "Red Dawn", "Flight", "Not Fade Away", "Song For Marion", "The Croods", "Jack Ryan", and "Sinister".
And we're looking at new posters for films "Sinister", "Gambit", "Anna Karenina", "Killing Them Softly", "Taken 2", "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters", and "Citadel".
So hit the jump for all of this week's latest content!
We'll start off with some new images from Darren Aronofsky's "Noah". We're starting to see more and more snippets from this project, and while this isn't anything as epic as the Ark itself, it's still nice to see some of the costume imagery to get a better idea of what this one will look like. (On Location Vacations)
Next, some new behind-the-scenes shots from "The Wolverine" - a movie that Aronofsky was once actually set to direct until he dropped it for the above film. Hugh Jackman returns for the sixth time to this character, which will hit theaters July 26, 2013. I'm definitely still in wait-and-see mode for this one. (ComicBookMovie)
Here's our first shot of Leatherface in the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot/sequel, "Texas Chainsaw 3D". We saw the first poster last week, and it was actually really awesome. I like the imagery here too, but I'll definitely have to see more before I get too interested. It does seem neat though that this movie will be a direct sequel to the original 1974 film, something the franchise has never done before. (Shock Til You Drop)
"Red Dawn" is preparing to close out Fantastic Fest later this month, and on the heals of that latest news, the studio has released this image. It's nothing exciting, but does feature cast members Adrianne Palicki and Josh Hutcherson. The image comes from Collider, who also runs down the specifics of this month's upcoming Fantastic Fest. (Collider)
And speaking of films closing out film festivals, Robert Zemeckis' latest film, "Flight", will be closing out the New York Film Festival in October. The film stars Denzel Washington as a possibly framed airline pilot. General audiences will get their first look at it November 2, 2012. I have high hopes for this one. (HeyUGuys)
We move next to the independent film (which will also be appearing at the NYFF) "Not Fade Away". The film takes place in the 1960's and centers around a suburban New Jersey rock band trying to make it big. Basically, just think "That Thing You Do!", but with a bit less comedy. And no Steve Zahn. (Film Society)
Two new photos have been released for "Song for Marion", which feature two of its stars, Gemma Arterton and Terence Stamp. I'm liking Stamp's look here, and I think a good dramatic role for him would be good (I still only think of "Yes Man" every time I see him, and I'd like to focus on something else). Cast looks good though, and since The Weinstein Company is behind this, don't be surprised to see Stamp's name pop up in awards talk later this year. (The Weinstein Company)
I don't very often feature animated imagery in this post, but some recently surfaced for Dreamworks' next adventure, "The Croods". Most of the same team that put "How to Train Your Dragon" is returning for this film, which will offer a voice cast of actors that includes Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Clark Duke, and more. (Entertainment Weekly)
Paramount Pictures has released the first images for the latest Jack Ryan adventure - aptly titled "Jack Ryan" - featuring Chris Pine and Kevin Costner. I haven't cared much about any of the previous films from this series, but I haven't necessarily disliked them either. I like this cast though, and I can't imagine this will be anything less than a competent action film. (iwatchstuff)
We round-out the Photos section with our first images from the upcoming horror film "Sinister". Believe it or not, it's another found-footage supernatural horror film. Maybe no one got the memo that there's already plenty littered about? I do like this cast that includes Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio. And the imagery does look decent - I like the smokey quality to all of the photos. We'll see how this one ends up panning out in October though. (Collider)
And just after the images released, the studio released two new posters for the film - the first the "special edition" poster, followed by the international poster. Posters look decent; don't seem overly generic. More solid imagery, but we'll just ave to see what they can do with the story. (IMP Awards)
Up next, the first two character posters for the remake of the 1966 film of the same title, "Gambit". This version will star, as you can see, Colin Firth and Alan Rickman, along with Cameron Diaz and Stanley Tucci. The cast seems mostly perfect for this film (not a huge Diaz fan though), and I'm always a sucker for a good art heist movie. This won't get its release until sometime in 2013. (IndieWire)
And speaking of character posters, here are some for the upcoming "Anna Karenina", starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Johnson. Still digging the look, but still not that interested in the storyline. Apparently it's been getting rave reviews throughout the festival circuits though, so expect this to be a big player come awards season. (IMP Awards)
Here's the latest from Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly". I really loved the last two posters, but this does very little for me. It feels too produced, and that just isn't the right tone for this film. I still think it will be a good watch, but this poster doesn't seem like it was a step forward from the marketing side of things. (ScreenCrush)
Next we have two versions of basically the same poster - just different formats - for "Taken 2". I've stated this before: Liam Neeson is awesome, and outside of what will probably be entertaining action scenes, this film is of little interest to me. It will hit theaters October 5, 2012, however, for those interested. (Total Film)
Here's a film that really makes me grimace when watching its trailer. On paper, the concept for "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" is awesome: a modern-day, grown-up, R-rated version of this story with notable actors. But the trailer looks terrible, and I'm just constantly reminded of "Van Helsing" when watching it. I have very strong inklings that this is going to bomb. It gets a January 11, 2013 release date, so maybe it'll be a nice after-Christmas watch, but I'd imagine Jeremy Renner is already kicking himself about this one. You can check out the trailer for the film at the link to the right, as well. (Apple)
And we finish up this week with a poster for the film that won the Midnight Audience award this year at the SXSW Film Festival, "Citadel". Some films that have previously won this award include "Bridesmaids" and "The Raid". No national release dates have been announced as of yet, but from the buzz surrounding this horror/thriller, we'll surely see it in some capacity sometime soon. The poster reminds me a lot of "Attack the Block"; both involve children, both are British, and both seem to have very similar tones from the look of the trailer. I wonder if the marketing teams are the same? (The Playlist)
But that's what we're looking at this week. Anything of particular interest to you?
