A Tale of Two Top 5 Lists: Megan Fox Vs. Elizabeth Olsen

Its safe to say that all of us here at this site love a good movie list. I'd even go as far as saying its sort of our trademark. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that when I visit Rotten Tomatoes, besides the reviews obviously, I always read the "Five Favorite Films" articles. I love reading what people in the film industry love watching more than anything else. After reading more than a hundred of these articles, I have to say that I seriously question the sincerity of some of these actors/actresses choices. The two actresses that I've highlighted are a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Read just what has chapped my ass about some of these lists after the jump.

Let's have a look at the two lists, shall we. I'm just going to list the films here for space saving purposes, but if you want to read the full reasons as well, you can view Megan's here, and Elizabeth's here

Megan Fox's Five Favorite Films:                                 Elizabeth Olsen's Five Favorite Films:
1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-03)                          1. Gone With the Wind (1939)
2. How To Train Your Dragon (2010)                                   2. Annie Hall (1977)
3. Kung Fu Panda 2 (2012)                                                  3. Manhattan (1979)
4. The Wizard of Oz (1939)                                                 4. Roman Holiday (1953)
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy (90-93)                  5. Pal Joey (1957)

First off let me start off by saying, I think Megan Fox might be my sole mate. She cheats and uses multiple films for one spot, a technique I'm quite prone to use myself. "Lord of the Rings" sits atop both our all time lists. And to top it all off, she's not too hard on the eyes, either. So Megan, since I know you read this blog every night, hurry up and divorce that husband of yours, I'm right here waiting.

You've obviously figured out by now which one of these lists I love, and which one I hate. This has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Megan Fox picked "Lord of the Rings" as her favorite film though. Some people would look at Megan's list and say there are a couple of questionable picks on there. To me though, there is no question that those are her absolute favorite films. When I look at Elizabeth's list on the other hand, I see a bunch of great films, and I really do believe she likes those movies, but I don't believe for a second that those are her absolute FAVORITE films. I have a hard time believing that she doesn't have one single movie that came out while she was alive that made her top 5 - heck, nothing on her list came out within 10 years of her being born. No, I believe she chose five movies that she thought would make her look smart, and sophisticated. I think that is a pattern that I see a lot of young actors follow on these articles, and I can't stand it. When I am doing a Top 5 list, I look at the category that I'm presented with, and I choose my absolute favorites, every single time, no matter how stupid they might sound. If I'm making a list of favorite George Clooney movies, I will proudly have "Batman & Robin" on that list. I think I'm one of 10 people on the planet who liked that movie, and I know it sucks, but goddammit I liked it and I have the balls to be honest about it. I wish that these young actors/actresses would be genuine when they give these lists as well.
