Chloe Moretz Picked for "Carrie" Remake

In what will surely be great news to our fellow writer, Nathan Hinds, news broke today that Chloƫ Moretz, one of the stars of "Kick-Ass" and the upcoming "Dark Shadows", will be starring in the leading role for the remake of Stephen King's "Carrie".

"Carrie" first hit theaters in 1976, with the lead role originally held by Sissy Spacek. If you're unfamiliar with the film (which, if so, shame on you), the movie centers around an awkward high school girl who's struggling with the same things every high school kid deals with: self-esteem, popularity, sexuality, etc. But then, all of the sudden, this girl that everyone's picked on and tormented develops telekinetic powers, and uses them to get back at the very same people that caused her so much pain. The film is climaxed with Carrie ultimately turning the Prom into a human bloodbath.

I remember at one time watching a documentary on this film, which featured commentary by Stephen King and other popular horror filmmakers. I kick myself for not remembering the title, but it was really great. King at one point talks about how no one thought this film was going to be anything worthwhile; they thought they were making a big mistake making this movie. Then, at screenings they saw how much people were screaming, and knew it would be a hit.

This isn't a video from what I originally saw, but King still actually touches on some of the same points. Plus it's pretty neat to watch anyway (and give you an idea for the tone of the film).

Anyway, what do you all think about 1) the fact that the film is being remade. Again (sort of). And 2) that Moretz is now set to star? Do you think she'll be a good fit? I think it will be a good role for her to try and tackle. We've seen her do a similar genre with "Let Me In", so I'm not afraid she can't handle it. I'm interested to see this develop and hear more on the project though.
